Soft material and it is nicer than I expected. The little hood was great for my pictures because my bubba would have pulled a hat straight off. It looked very cute. The only downside to it, is that the zip at the top was rather sharp and it scratch my little ones face and chin and left it red and quite sore for the rest of the day. If I had wanted to use it a second time I would have sewn a piece of ribbon over the zip.
